His Life Before War:
Norman was a farmer in Spring Creek. His father died in 1904 and his mother died in 1931. He went to Rapaura School.
Family:
Son of William John Jellyman and Elizabeth Ann Ching. Brother of Minnie Elizabeth Fryer, Wilbert Lindsay Jellyman, Winifred Evelynne Jellyman, Louis Stanley Jellyman, Cecil Richard Jellyman, Ethel Teakle Boyce, William Stanley Jellyman and Ralph Ellis Jellyman.
Embankment Details:
He signed up in Wellington on the 27th of May 1916. The ship he sailed overseas in was the Willochra.
When He Went To War:
His rank was Lance Corporal, and he was 3rd in the Machine Gun Corps. The machine guns were normally positioned on a flat tripod. It could fire 400 to 600 small caliber bullets per minute. The downside to these guns was that they rapidly overheated. The inventor of the machine gun was Hiram Maxim. They weighed over 50kg. If they overheated too much they would jam or explode.
Death:
He died in France on the 8th of June 1917 aged 22. His mother and father are buried by the Presbyterian Church on Rapaura Road.
